With only ever 1,010 metres being woven of this unique tartan, you will indeed have heritage in your hands.  Each metre comes with a limited edition label and a copy of the official tartan registration certificate that confirms it's entry into the National Records of Scotland.

The Hands of The Future fabric has been designed using deep red and strong black colours associated with the modern developments and processes within textile dyes over the centuries.  Red in the world of tartan textiles was symbolic of global trade and new world imports, it was the future.  Specifically for this appeal, the red for us also signifies the passion deep inside you to protect what you care about.  The sett of this design is also mirrored in - The Hands of the Past tartan.  Where the threadcount incorporates the date in history this fabric has been revealed to the world, the 31st July 2020.

This fabric by the metre is currently being woven at our mill, with all orders being despatched within the next 6-12 weeks.  Please do watch out on our social media channels for all behind the scenes images as we create history together.

This fabric is a medium weight worsted wool fabric, a perfectly versatile quality for all sorts of making projects but also a quality that will last for decades to come!

Fabric width 1.35m.

Woven at our mill in the Scottish Highlands by tartan rebels.
Each fabric by the metre is cut by hand by our artisan makers.

Hands of the Future Fabric

The fabric looks and feels exquisite. Everything that I have purchased from the Prickly Thistle is of the highest quality. I very much agree with the Prickly Thistle philosophy of preserving heritage through craftmanship and stewardship.

Fabulous fabric

I ordered this to support the National Trust of Scotland. The weave is delicate but study at the same time. The colors are vibrant. I hope to make my own skirt from the fabric.

Hey Michelle, we cannot wait to see your skirt one day! Thank you for supporting us and the NTS with your order! x

Couldn't Resist

Loved the muted shades fabric so I thought of this one for a full length pleated wrap skirt in a kilt style. The weave produced on the heritage looms are wonderful. The feel of the fabric, the drape, the red colours which are vibrant but not gawdy. It was a joy working with these fabrics. Secretly hoping Prickly produce more tartan sold in metres

Hey Diane, so pleased you loved the Hands of the Future tartan also! You have been busy making lots of amazing things and so pleased you love the quality of the fabric we create right here in the Highland region of Scotland x
