With only ever 1,010 metres being woven of this unique tartan, you will indeed have heritage in your hands. Each metre comes with a limited edition label and a copy of the official tartan registration certificate that confirms it's entry into the National Records of Scotland.
The Hands of The Past fabric has been designed to acknowledge why the NTS was formed and its purpose to protect the land and buildings in their charge. We used the colours associated with the many landscapes and buildings across Scotland for the tartan. Blue hues, soft green and gentle brown, symbolic of colours of the past that would have often been created using natural dye processes. The sett of this design is also mirrored in - The Hands of the Future tartan. Where the threadcount incorporates the date in history this fabric has been revealed to the world, the 31st July 2020.
This fabric by the metre is currently being woven at our mill, with all orders being despatched within the next 6-12 weeks. Please do watch out on our social media channels for all behind the scenes images as we create history together.

The Hands of the Past fabric is absolutely gorgeous and is going to be the focal point of my den as pillow cushions for my sofa -- my upholsterer loves it, too!
This was the second meter I purchased (having finally decided what I was going to make, I realised I needed more fabric). The colours are wonderful and the drape will be wonderful for my 60’s inspired pinafore. Best of all, as a Scot down south it was a wonderful way to support NTS and all that they do
Hey Lesley, thank you so much for such kindness in supporting the NTS and cannot wait to see your pinafore! x
I've been a seamstress for many years, so I know quality fabric when I see and touch it. And this is quality fabric! The surface is smooth and it has a firm hand. The drape is rounded. Medium weight just right for all sorts of sewing projects. The colors have a depth to them. Not just one note and bland. I haven't figured out what I'm going to use my yard for yet, but I can't resist taking it out now and then to touch and play with. Fabric nerds know what I'm talking about. lol Absolutely top level fabric. Beautiful!
Hey Ann, we are so pleased that from one fabric rebel nerd to another you recognise the quality and craftsmanship that has gone into creating this fabric. On 100 year old looms, and each yarn prepared by hand all under the watchful eye of a rebel weaver! We hope you have fun in making something special when the times comes! x
