Bollocks to Black Friday....

Bollocks to Black Friday....

It’s that time of year where we see people crazed with the prospect of an unmissable ‘deal’ or offers they simply cannot seem to turn down. All in the name of ‘Black Friday’, the biggest sales event of the year. People are driven to impulse buy. Buy too much. Buy things they don’t need. Waste a lot. It’s pretty horrific and it’s the stark result of a marketing ploy that is completely out of control. However, people are waking up to this, more and more are questioning the effects of the one-day buying frenzy on businesses and the planet.

These facts show us how unsustainable the fashion industry is!

It's for many of these eye-watering reasons that we have chosen, with purpose, not to mass produce with modern high speed machines. We want you to buy less and love more. Our ancient looms remind us to be patient and appreciate the form of lifetime fabric. They also need people with passion to operate and care for them and the fabric they produce. This creates employment, plays it's part in combating poverty and unconscious consumerism.

We’re proud to say we’ve allied with the retailers championing sustainability over spending. As climate change should be at the forefront of customer’s minds, we feel we have an educational message to share. This message is all about protecting our planet and people. Let’s be frank here, there’s no way these products can be made and sold at such staggeringly cheap prices without the question of ethics. Who’s making these products for pennies? How are they being treated? Is this right?

It’s for these reasons that we need to make a stand and that we are in support of a Green Friday. You’ll notice you won’t be able to buy anything via our online shop on Friday 27th November. We will have turned it all off. As a business, this is the time to lead the way and show consumers, peers, and government/ leaders that it doesn’t have to be this way. That Black Friday isn’t sustainable. You can also help us spread the right messages using #TartanRebels #GreenFriday on social media.

It will take a long time to change consumerism as we know it. But the increasing popularity of Green Friday is a strong, positive way of pushing back on materialism.

Good for you, your purse, and our planet.
