The bad-ass Beanie now has a the perfect accessory pal, and a first for us!  We just adore these sleeve style fingerless mittens.

We are thrilled to be working once again with one of the last surviving knitters in Scotland, they knit on machines as old as our looms which we LOVE.  Robert Mackie of Kilmarnock dates back to 1845, making knitted accessories in Stewarton, Scotland's famous 'Bonnet Toun'.

Using the very same fine merino yarns we use in our woollen spun fabrics, we now having some perfect accessory pairing vibes going on!

Here we proudly share with you our less than x 1 mark-up that we apply, and how this garment has been costed.

Most brands in the 'fashion' world add multipliers of x 2 for wholesale then add another x 2 for retail. When you buy direct from us its a less than x 1, we use the profits from everything we create to support more fairly paid jobs and push the textile world to be more eco-conscious. But we do a lot more like donating to charities and education bodies. This is what we proudly call our ethical pay it forward mark up. For full information on this, check out our full process and pricing page.

The cost breakdown for this garment is;
Wool Cost & Labour £9.75
QC, Labelling & Packing £3.00
Overheads (incl insurance, premise costs etc) £3.92
Total Cost To Company £16.67
Ethical Pay It Forward Mark Up x 0.8 £13.33

For Cost Per Wear (CPW) we just wanted to share how buying less, paying ethical prices, loving and wearing more is actually really affordable, its all about the number of wears! You wear the item 3 times a week for the next 3 years, that is 468 wears. The CPW is £30 divided by 468 wears, Cost Per Wear 6p!

Review of Prickly Thistle

Gloves are average quality. Order did not arrive until after Christmas. They arrived January 2, 2024. I feel the profanity used on your website is unprofessional and a poor business practice. I will not purchase from your company again.

Hey Jerry

Thank you so much for your review and we love every bit of feedback amazing customers take time to share with us. We proudly make public every single review, keeping it real is something we feel really passionate about. So sorry that you think the gloves are average quality for the £30 price tag, and also for the later than expected delivery. We received your order on the 19th December and shipped it on the 21st December using Royal Mail delivery option that you selected. Sadly we can indeed see it only reached you on the 2nd January, please accept our sincere apologies for this. We will make sure that everyone is aware that delays may be incurred during the incredibly busy holiday period. We absolutely taken on board your comments about our website, we try to articulate passion for change, a sense of humour and professionalism. We are a very small company, trying our best to disrupt for a more ethical future for all and we have to admit we get a little frustrated with greenwashing, but we certainly do not want to offend anyone. Thank you for your support with this purchase, from the rebellious Scottish Highlands, Best wishes Clare x

So great we bought two pair!!!

Prickly Thistle stands for everything we believe in as a customer and Clare’s vision and her team go above and beyond to make incredible clothing and these gloves were exactly what we needed for our cold mornings and warm afternoons here in Weatherford, Texas! We look forward to many years of supporting this great business and enjoying our visits to Scotland!
