We love our cute tees so much we wanted to experiment further and create an amazing short sleeve dress that also has options to customise.  You can add a hood, or side seam pockets or even have both.  Available, in 3 lengths with made to measure width tailoring to give you that perfect fit for life.

Available in the four iconic Element colours and available in all three of our unique fabric qualities which have woven by us in our mill in Scotland.  We give you more, with access to the full range of options direct from our planet and people first design archives.  These are our bad-ass books of how to always wear your values and look amazing!  See full details below.

What It's Made Of

  • Made with 100% finest natural merino wool
  • Spun and dyed in Scotland
  • Woven into tartan fabrics by us at our Highland mill
  • All labels made from hand cut and laser etched Scottish leather

Who It's Made By

  • Made by bad-ass womxn and men of the Scottish Highlands
  • Proudly preserving century old textile skills and machinery
  • Also proudly disrupting the world of future clothing, we have seen the past and it works!

• Size – Made to Measure, please specify your preferred dress length, your maximum bust size and note down the widest hip circumference. These sizes are so that we can make you the best fitting dress you have ever owned. Your dress will be made to order, then despatched within 2 weeks of the fabric being woven during the 4 X A Year batch period.

• Length – you can select from our three dress lengths. The length in inches listed is from the top of the dress to the bottom of the hem. We have a short at 33”, a standard at 38” and a long length of 43”

• Max Bust & Widest Hips – we ask this to make sure that this dress follows all your form comfortably. As this dress is made from woven wool there is a little give but we would not want it to be too tight. So, where your hips are larger than your bust then we would use your hip size to guide us for the overall dress width.

• Neck Style & Opening – this dress comes with a cute ¼” neck trim, with a maximum of 24” head circumference opening

• Sleeve Sizes & Length – this is a loose fitting sleeve by design and have listed the maximum bicep sizes for you to select from. All sleeves are 8” long.

• Item Finishing – Hemmed sleeves and dress bottom, with branded real leather label specifying the makers batch.

• Fabric Design - The Elements of Endurance Tartan, designed by us!

• Weave Design - repeated throughout the fabric is the alchemy element symbols, earth, air, water and fire, represented in triangle form.

• Fabric Repeat – all fabric has been cut by hand from the cloth roll woven at our mill, therefore aspects of the repeat will be unique to each item, which is pretty cool as it makes them all unique!

• Colour Options - Earth (brown), Air (grey), Water (blue) and Fire (red), each element tartan features four colours from the colour family it represents.

• Fabric Weight Options - Medium (compact and cosy), Heavy (dense and structured), Light (open and delicate)

For all items ordered as part of the 4 X A Year Club, we can have your clothing to you from as early as 2 weeks or it may be up to 8-10 weeks if we need more fabric. As we are weavers, its super handy right! No waiting months and months for items to pass around various factories, we do it all under one roof.

There is loads of cool things you can do and do not need to do when you wear natural fibre clothing! For the full low down on all this caring, checkout our guide and for more info on worn wear repairs, here is some tricks of the trade!.

Here we proudly share with you our less than x 1 mark-up that we apply, and how this garment has been costed.

Most brands in the 'fashion' world add multipliers of x 2 for wholesale then add another x 2 for retail. When you buy direct from us its a less than x 1, we use the profits from everything we create to support more fairly paid jobs and push the textile world to be more eco-conscious. But we do a lot more like donating to charities and education bodies. This is what we proudly call our ethical pay it forward mark up.

The cost breakdown for this garment is;
Fabric Cost £32.83
Labour To Make £30.00
QC, Labelling & Packing £7.50
Overheads (incl insurance, premise costs etc) £10.55
Total Cost To Company £80.88
Ethical Pay It Forward Mark Up x 0.79 £64.12

Time to Make : 1.5hrs
Cut 0.25hrs
Overlock 0.25hrs
Assemble 0.75hr
Trim & Press 0.25hrs

NB – the price variations in our short sleeve dresses reflect the additional fabric cost for the longer length. Also, should you opt to add-on a hood or side seam pockets these also have additional fabric and labour costs.

For Cost Per Wear (CPW) we just wanted to share how buying less, paying ethical prices, loving and wearing more is actually really affordable, it’s all about the number of wears!

You wear the item 3 times a week for the next 3 years, that is 468 wears. The CPW is £145 divided by 468 wears, Cost Per Wear 31p!

Read more about our transparent pricing and processes here.

It is something the 'fashion' world in particular is really bad at.... but we are bad-ass so nothing to hide under this piece of tartan, nothing bad but maybe an ass!

Earth Day Dungarees

Fabulous dungarees, I love them. The pockets are deep and extremely useful. Comfortable and light. The asymmetric quirkiness matches me perfectly. Love the Earth Day tartan, hmmmm need a reddish pair now.
Service was brilliant. Always someone at the end of the phone with answers to all my questions. Updates all the time. Beautifully packaged and lovingly unwrapped.
I have already planned what I'm getting from the 4 x a year collection. Wish I could afford everything at once but taking on the Prickly Thistle philosophies and trying to not impulse buy in order to create my own "no need to wash" sustainable wardrobe!
Keep up the good work.

Love this scarf and love Prickly Thistle.

I expected to love this scarf, and I do. The hand of it is buttery soft and the weave is wonderful. I have loved everything I have gotten from Prickly Thistle, and am proud to have been a rebel from the beginning. Thank you Clare and everyone at the mill.

Uniquely amazing

I love these dungarees so much! They are very comfortable, completely unique and an investment piece I shall be wearing for many many years to come. They came so beautifully boxed and from start to finish I felt valued as a customer. I was emailed throughout the process. Love the ethos and sustainability of this company.

Just stunning

I have recently purchased a pair of dungarees, I have to say that they are not cheap, but are most definitely worth every penny. The quality, the fit, and the design are amazingly different and they are absolutely a clothing item that will set you apart from crowds .
I was kept informed all the way from start to delivery, communications were spot on. One more point I want to make is how quickly and how beautifully packed my purchase was when they arrived.
Totally blown over - looking forward to putting in my next order
Thanks Pickly Thistle

Limited Edition Earth Day 2020 Dungarees

Wow, wow, wow. I just love my new dungarees. The fabric is beautiful and the design just brilliant. I had so many comments on wearing them out for the first time. Everyone wanted to know about Prickly...so I've told them. Fabulous fabric, kick ass design and all under a B-Corp banner. What's not to love. Thank you Prickly! I will definitely be adding to my sustainable wardrobe later in the year.

Rebel Washboard

Bought this after seeing the fabulous Miriam Margoles and Alan Cumming in their road trip in Scotland. What a fantastic enterprise, new immediately that my husband would love this quirky ‘cheese board’ to have alongside his whisky. Arrived obviously packed with care. Have recommended this site to family and friends .

Live edge Elm woodblock

I adore this piece as I adore everything I have purchased for Prickly Thistle. This Elm woodblock is exquisite. You can see and feel the quality and love which has gone into it. I love the shop’s philosophy as well as their products. The wood block is so beautiful, I keep it displayed on a kitchen countertop. Far too pretty for life in a cupboard! For me it’s a win/win. Thank you, Clare and fellow Rebels!! Keep up the brilliant work! xx 💙🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿💙

My first purchase won't be my last!

I absolutely love my scarf! I actually bought the Dennis 'Class-ic' Scarf as my first ever purchase for sentimental reasons. The character, Dennis, wore a distinctive red and black jersey in the children's comic "The Beano” published by DC Thomson, of Dundee, Scotland - my hometown. I have fond memories of my Gran buying the comic magazine for me and I always looked forward to the Christmas “annual”/book when I was young living in Scotland.
After ordering, my scarf arrived promptly and so beautifully packaged, along with a lovely personal thank you note and shiny kilt pin. It is just gorgeous - bright, light, yet so soft and cosy - and I can wear it in so many different ways - dressed-up or casually ( e.g., loosely draped around my neck, tied with a loop, and draped across my shoulders and tied with the kilt pin). I love the versatility of one piece of beautiful fabric.
Wearing my scarf feels like a warm hug from home here in Canada. I look forward to buying more tartan creations from Clare and her fantastic team that I can pass on to my children.

One of the highlights of my past few years

Being a supporter and believer in the mission and Vision of the Prickly Thistle Shop has been a high point in my life these last few years. I have loved every item I purchased and absolutely adore the manner in which things are packaged and sent. I reuse every piece of the packaging from paper to Ribbon! I also love the environmental aspect of how PT is managed. Thanks to Claire and all the Rebels for making our planet a little brighter, safer and more Colorful.
