@Clare Campbell Many thanks for the reply and valuable input! Yes, I want to know more too. We all should. I think your qurstions probe many of the significant issues that should be asked about such new technology ... What are the human and environmental health and safety profiles of these sorts of smart fibers? If health and safety issues are not mitigated, might it not be a better idea to consider technologies that approximate the liquid crystal-driven smart fibers, if such smart fibers are truly needed for improved fabric and humann performmance? For example, natual metal actuators have been used, although they tend to not be as effective actuators as liquid crystals. Can natural metal actuators be combined with natural plant or animal fibers to achieve much of the same performance successes as those achieved with alternative. possibly less health- and safety-sound products? Moreover, can natural plant or animal biosubstrate be used as actuators, such as natural actin-myosin complexes and other contractile ploymer filamental machines which pose little to no threats to human and envirnmental health and safety? (Also, a shrinking volume for an article of clothing would decrease the insulation index of trapped air and additional insualtors, so that the clothes would be cooler as long as the interface and ventilation between the human and the clothes remains the same. Think of a puffy down winter jacket in comparison to a spring poplin jacket.) Cheers.

@Clare Campbell As I mentioned before, I prefer to buy and wear clothes made of untreated all-cotton fabrics for its comparatively better breathability and biodegardability. But, does Circ's new recycling process for polycotton clothes create a closer to netzero pollution impact on the environment when compared to recycling of all-cotton clothes? I would have loved to read that sort of analyses in the EarthShot Prize 2023 finalist description. I think the Circ recycling process might become an important strategy for recycling exisiting polycotton fabrics. But, if the overall positve environmental impact still favors 100% natural cotton fabrics, then clothing designers and manufactures as well as consumers should favor them too. What is the apparel industry's view of Circ? Has more information about the ecological impacts of their proprietory technology been made available to the public?

Social media blackout….. as you all may know we were early adopters of the unplug movement as part of a protest move to make being social safe and healthy for everyone! But we have to say its not about being luxury….. we would love to know what you think about what is means to be digitally social?Love and rebellion!Cx

“we love reading articles like this, a lot of this we have been saying for years now. Its not new or innovative, its the past…… less made locally its the future!”Cx

@Social Rebel Thank you for the post. Well, I employ a very cautious approach toward social media use and encourage everyone to do likewise. A variety of methods for crime, including invasion of privacy, continue to outpace methods for preventing or countering such activity, leaving all users of social media vulnerable to attack. This is tremendously maddening given the potentional positive value of ethical and responsible digital sociality for individuals and communities. One area of particular concern is how safe, secure, and trustworthy AI/ML may affect safe, secure, and trustworthy social media. I work with governments, businesses, academia, professional organizations, community groups, and other entitiies to establish recommendations, guidelines, and standards to enahnce digital protections across a range of technologies, including social media. These efforts help structure frameworks stemming from UN recommendations, the EU AI Act, and the POTUS EO 14110, for example. BUT, everyone has a voice in this process and must particapte in personal, professional, and other activities to drive the creation and observance of the best polcies, practices, and laws regulating social media for the benefit of all.

@Kevin Clark thank you for all of this, and indeed this is why we created our own social space right here! There is trememdous benefits to digitally enhanced ways of being social, but we have to be aware as to who owns "the space" and what their motives are......
